Who was Leonidas I?
✦ ✦ ✦
Leonidas I was not just a king of Sparta. He became the symbol of defiance against impossible odds. In 480 BC, he led a small Greek force at Thermopylae against the vast Persian army, choosing duty and sacrifice over retreat.
Spartans believed courage was proven in the moment when fear had every reason to win. Leonidas lived that belief until the end.
His stand did not save Greece that day, but it gave Greece something just as powerful: time, unity, and a legend that still echoes through history.
