The Medieval Peasants Nearly Ended the English Monarchy

✦   ✦   ✦

In 1381 English peasants marched on London, breached the Tower, and executed the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The fourteen-year-old king rode out and promised them everything, the end of serfdom, land reform, full amnesty.

They believed him. He revoked every promise within weeks. Their leaders were hanged.
