Britain Had Too Many Poor Children. Australia Needed Labor
✦ ✦ ✦
Between 1947 and 1970, Britain shipped approximately 130,000 children to Australia, Canada, and Rhodesia.
They were told their parents were dead. Their parents were told their children had been adopted. The institutions received government funding per child delivered.
It wasn't charity. It was a supply contract.
